A winter weather travel advisory has been issued for the City of Toronto that says the Friday morning commute will be affected.

The advisory is in effect for Thursday night into Friday morning and warns of locally heavy snowfall with accumulations of 5 to 10 cm.

"Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly," Environment Canada advised.

"There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas."

There could be poor visibility at times in heavy snow, the weather agency said.

"A band of lake effect snow off Lake Ontario will develop overnight," the advisory states.

"This band, combined with an incoming low pressure system, is expected to produce locally enhanced snowfall amounts."

"Snow will taper to light flurries late Friday morning or early Friday afternoon as this band shifts to the south."

Drivers were warned to slow down if driving in slippery conditions, watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.

You can also turn on your headlights to make your vehicle more visible.
