'Remarkable': TTC employees raise over $800K for United Way

The TTC says the $803,000 amount raised for the United Way of Greater Toronto is $125,000 more than the previous year's fundraising haul

In 2024, Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) employees showed their generosity by raising more than $803,000 for the United Way of Greater Toronto throughout the year.

The TTC announced the milestone this week and said the total raised is $125,000 more than the previous year's fundraising haul.

Thousands of employees contributed through donations made via regular and one-off pay deductions, the TTC said.

Employees also volunteered their time to host fundraising events throughout 2024, including the popular Halloween Fest at Bay Lower Station.

In addition to raising more than $803,000, employees collected over 10,000 donations of toys and gifts during Stuff-the-Bus events held across the city throughout the Christmas season.

The TTC extended its gratitude to riders who contributed to the success of the initiatives and said their kindness has made a difference in the lives of those in need.

The achievement was celebrated at an event at Davisville station on Wednesday. TTC chair Jamaal Myers, TTC CEO Greg Percy, transit employees and union representatives came together to present a cheque to United Way Greater Toronto.

“I want to thank every TTC employee whose generosity once again raised an incredible amount of money that will support United Way Greater Toronto’s work across all areas of our city,” said Myers. “This remarkable fundraising campaign is a true reflection of the character of the TTC team and their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of their fellow Torontonians.”

All donations made to the Stuff-the-Bus toy drive were distributed to charities that support children and families in need, including The Hospital for Sick Children, the Yonge Street Mission and the Salvation Army, among several others.
