With this month's wintry transit delays still fresh in the minds of many locals, the Toronto Transit Comission (TTC) said it is prepared for Friday afternoon's expected snowfall and cold temperatures.

Torontonians can expect snowfall to begin around noon today, with two centimetres forecast to pour over the city, according to Environment Canada.

Windy weather conditions are also anticipated, likely pushing temperatures to near -7 C with the wind chill.

In advance of the snow, TTC officials again reminded drivers in the city not to block streetcar paths with parked vehicles.

"As the city braces for challenging weather conditions, the TTC reminds motorists that all streets with streetcar tracks are designated City of Toronto snow routes and subject to parking restrictions," the TTC said in a statement.

Parking on a snow route can lead to a $200 fine and the vehicle being towed at the owner's expense.

"In recent weeks there have been dozens of incidents where cars parked against snowbanks have blocked streetcars, leading to delays, diversions, and inconvenience for thousands of customers," the TTC continued.

Motorists are encouraged to leave their cars parked at home and use transit to cross the city.

The TTC said it is taking "proactive measures" to handle the winter weather. This includes the deployment of extra TTC employees and maintenance vehicles that will spread salt and clear snow.

Workers will also be running anti-icing trains to keep the power rail and tracks clear of snow and ice, the TTC said.

The transit provider said it will spray anti-icing on the entire streetcar overhead network, as well as on the ground at all bus, streetcar and subway divisions, to ensure vehicles can operate safely.

Transit officials will actively monitor 56 local bus stops in areas where snow and freezing rain are known to impact bus service.

Customers are advised to check online if their bus stop is in service before they travel.

By Friday evening, Environment Canada said there is a 40 per cent chance of rain showers. After midnight, there is a 40 per cent chance of flurries, with temperatures expected to drop to -13 C with the windchill.
