Raccoon on tracks leads to long subway delay at Davisville Station

The animal was not the first critter to hold up the TTC in recent days

Seemingly unbothered by the chaos of morning rush hour, one of Toronto's unofficial mascots took a stroll along the subway tracks on Thursday — causing a 45-minute subway delay that saw 15 shuttle buses dispatched.

A raccoon can be seen shuffling at track level at Davisville Station in a social media post that appears to be from the incident. The post has garnered a plethora of comments, including from people who ended up stuck on the train.

Several commuters said they thought the animal was "cute" and hoped it got to safety, but were scratching their heads about why it took so long to corral the critter and get trains rolling again.

It's not the first furry creature to hold up a TTC vehicle this past week.

A skittish cat on its way home from a veterinarian appointment got out of its carrying case and hid under a streetcar, which was held up for an undetermined amount of time as riders tried to coax the animal to safety.

The concerned group eventually taped together two brooms with which they were able to shoo the feline into the open, where it was scooped up and put back into its carrier.

Riders in recent years have recorded everything from dogs on the tracks, to a chicken in a subway car (it turned out to be a pet).

The situation appears to be made worse by some open-air stretches of the subway line, such as near Davisville, where wildlife and wayward pets manage to get themselves into trouble.
