We've all heard of crashes, power outages, bad weather and more holding up transit vehicles in Toronto.
Now some TTC passengers have a story to tell after helping rescue a skittish cat that darted under a King West streetcar on Friday and wouldn’t come out.
The unhappy feline appeared to be on the way home from a veterinary appointment around rush hour when it escaped from the bag it was being carried in.
Online accounts say passengers and people from nearby shops offered hot food, cake and cat treats to try to lure the animal out from under the stopped street car.
The rescuers eventually taped together two broomsticks to push the cat out from under the vehicle, where it was promptly scooped up and placed back inside its carrier.
Exclamations of “Yeah”, “Oh my God”, “Amazing!” and "We got it!” could be heard amid applause and laughter.
It was unclear how long the rescue operation took.
The person who appeared to be the cat’s owner called out, “I’m sorry everyone!” as she gave a hug to a TTC employee in uniform and other people who helped out.
"With so much negativity these [days] it’s really nice to see all of these people coming together to rescue the escape artist kitty. I’m sure he got a lot of treats that night,” posted one person online.
