New custom made "anti-terror" concrete barriers are being installed in front of Union Station in downtown Toronto.
The $500,000 barriers at 65 Front St. W. are among additions being put in place after the travel hub underwent a major $825-million renovation.
Acquiring and installing the barriers and partially waterproofing sidewalks will cost $2.4 million.
Starting Wednesday, the taxi stand in front of Union Station will be temporarily moved closer to Bay Street as crews begin their work, the city noted.
The "pedestrian safety" project is expected to be concluded by spring 2025, according to the city.
Union Station is used by an estimated 300,000 travellers each day.
The new custom barriers will replace dozens of concrete barriers placed near the station after the Yonge Street van attack in 2018.
Starting tomorrow, the sidewalk on Front St. in front of Union Station will undergo construction to improve pedestrian safety. As a result, the taxi stand in front of the station will be temporarily relocated closer to Bay St.
