SPACES, a new community-driven social network, is making its way to Toronto — and invites you to take a leading role.
Created alongside TorontoToday.ca (the go-to news site for people who live and work in the core), SPACES is an interactive social media platform designed to connect Toronto residents around shared interests.
From the city’s vibrant nightlife and eclectic art scene to its lively sports leagues, multicultural restaurants and endless entertainment, SPACES will be the platform that brings the community together over shared interests.
And it brings neighbours together. Whether you’re in Trinity-Bellwoods, Cabbagetown or anywhere in between, there could be a space dedicated to the issues and events that shape your 'hood.
Spaces are already connecting neighbours in Sault Ste. Marie, where the platform made its debut.

SEE: So you want to be a SPACES host
What sets SPACES apart from global social media networks is that our spaces are moderated by local champions — also known as hosts — who are leading safe, civil and informative discussions about local topics of interest.
Hosts are TO residents who are experts in their respective fields or realm of interest and act as community stewards, guiding thoughtful dialogue on a wide range of topics.
These moderators will play an important role in the foundation of SPACES. This is where you come in.

We’re looking for locals in Toronto to sit at the helm of these unique online communities and help create a safe, inclusive and authentic environment.
We want you to play a key role in connecting people across the city.
If you are interested in becoming a host for SPACES, fill out the form: So You Want to be a SPACES Host. We’re excited to hear from you.
Need a bit more information? You got it!
Here are some great reasons to sign up as a SPACES host:
Help foster interconnectedness in our hometown: SPACES connects residents to their neighbourhood. As host, you’ll act as community liaison – piquing interest, educating the public on what matters in Toronto, highlighting what city dwellers need to know, and more.

Support local businesses, and help grow the economy: We’re bringing people and local initiatives together in SPACES. Is your hockey club looking to recruit fellow skaters? Are you looking for a new book club to join? Do you have an interest in photographing Toronto’s skyline? Are you a makeup artist who wants to share your work? You’ll have a leading role in shaping these dialogues — in SPACES.

Facilitate collaboration on local issues: How can we collectively make Toronto the best city to live, work and raise a family? As host, you’ll be guiding collaboration on this — bringing ideas together to ensure locals feel supported and engaged.
Be among the first: Similar to managing a group on Facebook, host positions are voluntary. But unlike FB group admins, our hosts are frequently recognized and promoted on the leading source of local news and information in Toronto. They also have an opportunity to be among the first to help build a local online community that is safe, welcoming, diverse, non-toxic, informative and all about Toronto.
You’ll be connecting with others who share the same interests. And you’ll be contributing to a safe, locally-minded community that works to build a stronger city.
We’re also gearing up to launch in other cities soon. Sudbury, North Bay, Milton, Burlington and Oakville are also poised to launch SPACES in February of this year.
