Local basketball fans are being encouraged to wear their Raptors gear and show their support in person for #WeTheNorth as Toronto's NBA team gets set to play its season opener tonight.
Fans were being urged to converge on City Hall this morning as the city gets set celebrate the tip-off for the Raptors' 30th season.
The Raptors, who won the NBA championship in 2019, are at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers with game time at 7:30 p.m.
To mark the occasion, a flag-raising ceremony will be held at Toronto City Hall on Queen Street West at 9:30 a.m. at the courtesy flagpole on the podium roof.
Mayor Olivia Chow will be joined by Raptors alumnus and ambassador Jamaal Magloire and team general manager Bobby Webster.
Also on hand will be the team's mascot, The Raptor.
To help foster the Canadian basketball players of tomorrow, on Tuesday the city and non-profit Giants of Africa unveiled two new basketball courts in Toronto.
Mayor Chow, Councillor Anthony Perruzza (Humber River-Black Creek) and Raptors president Masai Ujiri, co-founder of Giants of Africa, announced the opening of the courts at Firgrove Park near Jane Street.
