In a case of perfect timing, Toronto's very own ski hill opened Monday just as a mass of Arctic air settled over the city.
The Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre is now open for the season which — weather permitting — will run through to Sunday, March 16, the city announced.
Mayor Olivia Chow called it “one of the city’s best-kept winter secrets."
"I taught my two granddaughters to ski here — come and check it out!” said Chow, who noted the bunny hill is great for first-time skiers.
The centre has one beginner hill with a rope tow suitable for all ages, and a main hill with two runs and a race hill accessible by chairlift (seats up to four people).
There's a ski chalet at the top and washrooms that can be accessed from both inside and outside.
Equipment rentals are available for anyone hitting the slopes, whether skiing or snowboarding.
Since the hill's operation is weather dependent, the city reminded people to check for updates before heading there. Information about hours of operation, service alerts and rental equipment can be found on the city’s webpage.
Helmets are required for anyone registered in lessons and are "highly recommended for patrons of all ages," the city said.
Adult lift tickets range from around $26 for two hours, up to around $40 for an all-day pass. Use of the rope tow is $12.88 a day, providing access to the beginner hill.
Season's passes are also available with youth, adult, senior and family pricing. Check out lift ticket prices here.
The Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre is at 4169 Bathurst St. in North York.
