BarrieToday reporter Shawn Gibson and his wife joined thousands of soccer fans at BMO Field in Toronto in 2022 to see Canada qualify for the previous World Cup.

FIFA has released its "Toronto Sonic ID," a city-themed jingle, for the upcoming 2026 World Cup.

The up-beat, instrumental tune was created by Canadian award-winning producer and songwriter Hill Kourkoutis.

In an accompanying video, the song plays over a montage of the city's diverse neighbourhoods, from Centre Island, to Casa Loma, Graffiti Alley and more.

Several Toronto landmarks are also featured in the video, including the CN Tower, Ripley's Aquarium and Nathan Phillips Square.

Kourkoutis remixed the official FIFA World Cup 26 theme to capture the sounds of Toronto, the city said on its website.

FIFA fans with good sound recognition are likely to notice the song ends with a chime replicating the TTC's door closing warning.

Toronto will be hosting six matches as part of the world's biggest soccer tournament, five of which are group stage matches.

All Toronto matches will be played at BMO Field, the home of Major League Soccer team Toronto FC. The field just underwent significant upgrades, including expansion to the stadium's seating to add space for 17,000 extra spectators, for a total of 45,000 seats.

The upcoming FIFA tournament is also being hosted in Mexico and the United States.

The Canadian Men's National Team will open up the tournament on June 12, 2026.

The full FIFA Toronto Theme is available to stream on YouTube.
