VIDEO: How do Torontonians feel about Justin Trudeau's resignation?

TorontoToday cameras stopped by Maple Leaf Square to hear what locals thought of the prime minister's decision to step down once a new Liberal Party leader is selected

After months of intense calls to step down — from members of his own caucus as well as political rivals — Justin Trudeau will resign as Liberal Party of Canada leader and as prime minister as soon as a leadership contest is held to select his replacement.

A teary-eyed Trudeau made the live announcement on national television outside Rideau Cottage earlier today, admitting he would not be the party's best option in this year's federal election.

TorontoToday visited Maple Leaf Square on Monday afternoon and asked locals how they feel about the decision. The responses were mixed as many are now preparing — or bracing — for a new era in Canadian politics.
