NDP incumbent Jessica Bell has won re-election in the riding of University—Rosedale.
Before entering provincial politics in 2018, Bell was the founding executive director of TTCriders, an advocacy group that campaigns for improvements to the TTC. At Queen’s Park, Bell was the NDP’s housing and transit critic. She has sponsored legislation that aimed to improve rental control and clamp down on illegal evictions
University—Rosedale is a provincial riding in Toronto’s central downtown that encompasses the Annex, University of Toronto, Little Italy, Harbord Village, Kensington Market, Chinatown, Yorkville, Rosedale and the Queen’s Park precinct.
Provincially, it has been represented by NDP incumbent Jessica Bell since 2018 when it was created by redistricting. Federally, it has been dominated by Liberal Party of Canada. It is currently held by Liberal MP Chrystia Freeland.
Bell ran against Ontario Liberal Party candidate Pamela Jeffrey, who has run charities focussed on helping women succeed in the workplace; PC Party candidate Sydney Pothakos, a political staffer for Progressive Conservative cabinet ministers at Queen's Park; and Green Party of Ontario candidate Ignacio Mongrell, the assistant director of ICUBE, an experiential learning centre at the University of Toronto Mississauga.
