City officials have scheduled a by-election to fill the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) trustee vacancy in Ward 11.
Election day is currently slated for March 3, 2025.
The city decided to fill the vacancy during a meeting on Wednesday.
Interested candidates can apply for nomination beginning today until Jan. 17, 2025, at 2 p.m.
A potential candidate must file a nomination paper with an original signature and be a resident of Toronto. They must also provide proof of address, be a public school supporter and be qualified to vote for the office of TDSB trustee. A $100 nomination filing fee is required.
Nominations must be submitted in person at the Toronto Elections City Hall office located at 100 Queen St. W.
Until a nomination paper is filed, a potential candidate is not permitted to raise or spend money on their campaign.
A list of candidates for the vacancy will be updated on the Ward 11 by-election webpage as nominations are filed.
People, corporations or trade unions intending to spend money to promote, support or oppose a candidate in the by-election must also register as a third party advertiser.
The TDSB Ward 11 office was formerly filled by Coun. Rachel Chernos Lin, who won the municipal Don Valley West by-election in November.
