Toronto's Giuseppe Focarino wins $1 million lottery prize

A Toronto retiree is eyeing travel and adventure after earning a $1 million Maxmillions lottery prize.

Giuseppe Focarino took home the windfall from the Oct. 11 draw with a ticket purchased he on the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) website.

“It was early morning, the day after the Lotto Max draw, when I noticed I had received an email from OLG,” Focarino told staff at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto, where he claimed his winnings.

“I logged into my account and things looked a little different. I was so surprised to see that I had won a Maxmillions prize!" he detailed. "My wife was barely awake when I showed her my phone screen. She couldn’t believe it!”

“Winning feels like a wonderful bonus to enjoy in my retirement,” Focarino said. “This will definitely make it more adventurous! My wife and I plan to invest, and we may enjoy some travel, too."

There have been 921 Maxmillions prizes won through Lotto Max gambling in Ontario since 2009. A ticket costs $5, with draws every Tuesday and Friday.
