A west-end food bank that has been closed since before Christmas said it is ready to reopen next week in its new location.

The Parkdale Community Food Bank will officially re-open at 5 Brock Ave. (rear unit) on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Formerly located at Queen Street West and Dunn Avenue, the food bank has operated since 2007 in the west end neighbourhood.

"We believe high-quality, nutritious food is a basic human right," the food bank said on its website. "We prioritize dignity, safety, and respect, fostering mutual support and advocating against poverty and food insecurity. All community members are welcome free of judgment."

Drop-in program

Parkdale Community Food Bank shut down on Dec. 22 and began work on its move.

They offer a drop-in grocery program, where people can choose their own groceries in person. Their hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as well as Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

"We offer a wide range of food items weekly, catering to all diets," the food bank said. "We recommend arriving a few hours after opening, as wait times can be long at the beginning of service."

The food bank also offers a delivery program, established in 2020, for those unable to leave home due to health concerns.
