Looking to try a new dining experience this weekend? Air Canada has you covered.
Three restaurants in Toronto have made Air Canada's annual “Best New Restaurants” list.
Eateries Mhel, Takja BBQ House and Bar Prima placed in second, fourth and seventh place, respectively on the “Top 10” shortlist. Sabayon, based in Montreal, was awarded the top spot.
According to Air Canada’s website, the airline has been publishing its “Best New Restaurants” list for over 20 years. For each iteration, Air Canada sends a food writer on a cross country “road trip” to try newly opened restaurants under an alias.
This year, Air Canada sent Tara Brady, author of the cookbook Wall of Bakers, to compile the list.
Mhel, located at 276 Havelock St., is a casual fish-focused restaurant that serves rotating seasonal Korean and Japanese dishes. It’s open Wednesday to Sunday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Nestled near the Trinity-Bellwoods and Brockton Village neighbourhoods, Takja BBQ House can be found at 962 College St. Founded by the owners of Oroshi Fish Co., the Korean barbecue joint serves seafood-laden appetizers and cuts of meat served on gold plates. The restaurant is open Wednesday to Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Finally, in seventh place, Bar Prima serves cozy Italian dishes and offers six signature cocktails. Brady describes its menu as “Old-meets-New World Italian.” It’s located at 1136 Queen St. W, next to Toronto’s iconic Drake Hotel. Bar Prima is open seven days a week, from 5 p.m. onwards.
