In the same way Santa is making a list and checking it twice, the TTC is urging those in the holiday spirit to plan their trip to the the 120th annual Santa Claus Parade and the 5K Holly Jolly Fun Run next Sunday, Nov. 24.
The TTC says transit is the fast and efficient way to get to both events.
The fun run will start at 11:45 a.m. on Bloor Street, just west of Bathurst Street between Manning and Euclid avenues.
The run will follow the same route as the parade, but will end at Maple Leaf Square.
The parade is set to start at 12:30 p.m. at Bloor Street West and Christie Street directly outside Christie Station.
It will move eastbound along Bloor Street West to Spadina Avenue, travel southbound to Hoskin Avenue and then eastbound to Queen’s Park Crescent East.
The parade will then travel down University Avenue to Wellington Street and continue east.
The festive procession then heads south on Yonge Street and east on Front Street, before ending at Jarvis Street near the St. Lawrence Market.
The TTC notes that for people looking for a good parade vantage point, the following subway stations are along the parade route: Christie, Bathurst, Spadina, and St. George on Line 2 Bloor-Danforth, and Spadina, St. George, Museum, Queen’s Park, St. Patrick, Osgoode, Queen and King stations on Line 1 Yonge-University.
Extra service will be added on Line 1 and on Line 2, the transit service says.
Staff will be available at subway stations to answer questions, the TTC said.
The following routes will divert, starting at around 10 a.m.:
- 13 Avenue Road
- 19 Bay
- 75 Sherbourne
- 94A Wellesley
- 114 Queens Quay East (new this year)
- 121 Esplanade-River
- 126 Christie
- 300 Bloor-Danforth
"503 Kingston Road, 504 King, 505 Dundas, 506 Carlton and 511 Bathurst streetcars will continue to operate throughout the parade," the TTC said.
"If you are travelling along these routes, please give yourself extra time. This is because Toronto Police and TTC personnel will only be allowing streetcars through when there are gaps in the parade."
Transit riders looking to check out the parade and run were being encouraged to use the TTC Trip planner to plan their trip.
