Torontonians are being invited to a free downtown celebration of Lunar New Year this weekend featuring 12 local vendors, unique artisanal goods, plus food, drinks and activities.
The event is happening at the Blue Moon Brewery at STACKT Market, the shipping container marketplace located at 28 Bathurst St., near Front Street West.
Billed as a celebration of the Year of the Snake and as a tribute to the city's vibrant East Asian community, the festivities will take place this Sunday, Feb. 2 from noon to 6 p.m.
Activities will include a live dumpling cooking demo, movies featuring East Asian culture (Crazy Rich Asians is on the docket), a DJ and the opportunity to play Yutnori, a traditional Korean board game.
"With something for everyone, this free event is the perfect way to welcome the New Year in style!" said the organizer, High Bell Hospitality.
The afternoon's lineup also features special offers from the eatery Fat Bao, including prosperity dumplings and longevity noodle bowls available for $8.88.
"Come for the food, stay for the vibes, and celebrate the Lunar New Year in style," organizers said.
Lunar New Year is typically a two-week celebration marking the first day of the lunisolar calendar. The holiday is often celebrated widely in China, South Korea and Vietnam, among other countries.
