A festival and popular March break event that celebrates all things maple syrup, has announced the event will be cancellated this year.

Sugar Shack TO, presented by Redpath Sugar, usually takes place at Sugar Beach on Dockside Drive at Lower Jarvis and Queens Quay on the first weekend of March break, once the sap gets running.

Sugar Shack TO's website stated the reasons for the cancellation were financial.

"Organizers have made the difficult decision to cancel due to a reduction in funding and rising production costs," read the statement.

The urban cabane à sucre experience in years past featured free general admission, live entertainment, a warming station with a bonfire, maple sugaring demonstrations, ice sculptures, maple-infused food and a lumberjack show. Fresh-made Ontario maple taffy was also sold at the event.

Organizers said they are focusing their efforts on returning "with a sweeter event" in 2026.

"Please stay tuned for announcements and updates," they said.
