Travellers passing through Union Station next week will be treated to a special pop-up concert by the cast of the musical Come From Away.
As part of the Dec. 3 Giving Tuesday charity fundraising effort, cast members from the hit Canadian theatre production will perform three songs that celebrate generosity.
The special mini concert is part of Mirvish Productions' support for CanadaHelps, an online platform for donating and fundraising for Canadian charities.
The Come From Away company will perform the musical's opening number, Welcome to the Rock. Cailin Stadnyk and backup singers Saccha Dennis, Steffi DiDomenicantonio and Barbara Johnston will perform Me and the Sky and Barbara Fulton and Clint Butler will sing Stop the World.
Come From Away tells the true story of 7,000 plane passengers who were stranded in the small town of Gander, N.L. just before the events of 9/11 occurred. Thirty-eighty commercial flights were grounded in town for five days as scrappy locals worked to provide the travellers warm, east coast hospitality.
Mirvish, Canada’s largest commercial theatre production company, said Tuesday's event will showcase how kindness, empathy and giving unites communities.
"This Giving Tuesday event highlights the enduring power of kindness on this annual day of generosity and the role that arts and culture play in bringing people together," the production company said in a release.
The full Come From Away cast is expected to be in attendance at Union Station on Tuesday.
The pop-up concert will start at 4:10 p.m. in the street level west wing of the station and will last for about 20 minutes.
Staff from CanadaHelps, the co-founders of the Giving Tuesday movement in Canada, will also be handing out $5 CanadaHelps Charity Gift Cards to encourage Torontonians inspired by the production to support their favourite charity on Giving Tuesday.
Mirvish's production of Come From Away is on now through March 2, 2025, at the Royal Alexandra Theatre.
