Environment Canada issued a winter weather advisory for the City of Toronto and surrounding areas Monday.
The city could see snowfall accumulations of 5 to 15 centimetres.
This could cause low visibility during periods of heavier snow as well as hazardous driving conditions on the roads, Environment Canada said.
Snow is expected to move into the area this afternoon or in the early evening. It will taper off to flurries late Monday night with a risk of freezing drizzle.
Environment Canada recommends motorists adjust their driving plans accordingly.
The TTC said it is preparing for the storm by running anti-icing subway trains to keep the system's power rail and tracks clear of snow and ice, as well as spraying anti-icing on the entire streetcar overhead network.
Extra employees and maintenance vehicles are also being deployed.
Additional buses will hit the roads on a route-by-route basis, the TTC said. This move will aim to maintain service levels should snow cause significant slowdowns, detours or disruptions.
Regions north of the city can expect up between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow.
