Torontonians can expect strong winds throughout the city today, according to an Environment Canada weather alert released Monday morning.

Southwesterly wind gusts are predicted to reach up to 70 or 80 km/h.

The strong winds will last throughout the morning and into the evening, though the gusts are expected to gradually decrease as the night progresses.

The high winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Environment Canada warned power outages are possible across the city.

A cold front is also expected to move through the region today and may be accompanied by bursts of heavy and blowing snow. Drivers have been asked to exercise caution on the roads.

The weather alert for strong winds also applies to much of southern Ontario.

Temperatures on Tuesday night are expected to drop to about -11 C in Toronto, though the wind chill will make it feel closer to -20 C.

By Wednesday, the temperature is likely to bounce back, with a forecasted daytime high of -1 C.
