Woman confronted during robbery sprays noxious substance at staff: police

Suspect also assaulted a staff member before fleeing, Toronto police say

Police released these images of a person of interest in a robbery near Yonge Street and Wellesley Street on Wednesday.

Police say a woman who was confronted when stealing from a downtown Toronto store sprayed a noxious substance at staff and proceeded to assault one of them before fleeing.

The Toronto Police Service (TPS) has now released images of a person of interest in the robbery that took place Wednesday at around 3:30 p.m. in the Yonge Street and Wellesley Street area.

The woman entered the store and attempted to steal a number of items before staff members confronted her, the TPS said in a news release.

"The suspect then sprayed a noxious substance towards the staff members," police said. "The suspect then assaulted one of the staff members before she fled."

The suspect is described as 20 to 30 with a medium build and long straight black hair. She was wearing a black jacket, pink top, beige pants, white shoes and carrying a beige tote bag.
