Toronto firefighters were dispatched to an apartment fire in the Bloor Street West and Bathurst Street area early Thursday morning.
Crews received notice of the fire at 38 Barton Avenue at 3:16 a.m., according to a Toronto Fire spokesperson.
There was heavy smoke on the second floor of the building and a fire in a second-floor unit.
Toronto Fire said it was a two-alarm blaze.
During search and rescue, firefighters located and removed two occupants from the unit, who were transferred to care of paramedics.
Firefighters also rescued two dogs, who were put in temporary care of Toronto police.
The fire was out as of Thursday morning at 10 a.m. Crews will remain on the scene doing fire watch and taking temperature readings of the unit early evening, Toronto Fire said.
There was no mass evacuation of the apartment building, although TTC buses were called to provide temporary shelter for occupants who had to exit their units.
Toronto has experienced a series of apartment fires over the past two weeks.
