A suspect believed to be involved in a shooting in Cabbagetown Sunday evening was arrested by police after fleeing in a car and crashing near Dixon Grove Middle School.

The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. near Sherbourne Street and Dundas Street E.

Toronto Police received reports of gunshots in the area and a vehicle was seen fleeing the scene.

When police arrived, they found a man suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the hospital.

Later Sunday evening, police announced they arrested a suspect after he was involved in a car crash.

Media relations officer Viktor Sarudi told TorontoToday the male suspect crashed near Dixon Grove Middle School in Etobicoke, on the other side of the city.

After crashing, the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was chased down by police. A firearm was recovered in the arrest.

At this time, no other suspects are being sought, Sarudi says.

Police had initially said Sunday evening they were looking for two suspects in the shooting: a man and a woman.

Sarudi tells TorontoToday that the “information regarding a female was from the early stages in the radio call.”
