The province’s police watchdog agency is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 34-year-old woman after she reportedly fell from a downtown balcony.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said at around 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, the Toronto Police Service received a call about a person standing on the railing of a balcony near King Street West and Spadina Avenue.
"Officers responded to the area and attempted to communicate with the woman. Moments later, she fell," the SIU said in a news release.
The woman was taken to hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
A post-mortem is scheduled for Thursday, the SIU said.
The SIU is asking anyone who may have information, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator online or at 1-800-787-8529.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of police that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
