Man sought after security guard assaulted at Scotiabank Arena

Police released these images of a man wanted in connection with a downtown assault.

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's help in locating a suspect after an assault on a security guard at Scotiabank Arena.

Police say they were called on Thursday, Dec. 12, at around 3:30 p.m. to the area of Bay Street and the Gardiner Expressway.

Police say a security guard had asked a man to leave the arena.

The man later returned, located the security guard and assaulted him with a blunt object, police said in a news release.

The security guard was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Lionel Vernon, 41, of Toronto, is wanted for aggravated assault.

Vernon is described as 6'2" tall and 220 pounds, medium build, bald, with black and grey facial hair.

He was wearing a blue hooded sweater, a green camouflage jacket, blue jeans, and black running shoes with white soles.
