A York Region man faces charges after being accused of uttering threats at a demonstration in Toronto.

The Toronto Police Service (TPS) said on Sunday that officers investigated an incident at a demonstration near Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West.

Police allege the accused approached a police officer and claimed to be a member of the Kahane Chai (Kach), a "listed terrorist entity" by Public Safety Canada, according to the TPS.

"The accused expressed anger towards counter-demonstrators and made threatening utterances to cause grievous harm," TPS said in a news release.

The corner of Bathurst and Sheppard in North York has been the location of ongoing pro-Israel rallies and counter-protests.

On Monday, a search warrant was executed at the man's residence, according to police.

The TPS said officers seized clothing branded with the Kahane Chai name and crest, a soft-body armour vest, a lever action rifle and scope and 10 boxes of ammunition.

Eli Schwarz, 38, of Vaughan, was arrested and charged with uttering threats and careless storage of ammunition.

He was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Finch Avenue West.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Schwarz is considered innocent until proven guilty.
