Police have made an arrest in a downtown bank robbery attempt that took place Tuesday morning.

The Toronto Police Service (TPS) says officers responded to a holdup call at 10:18 a.m. near King Street East and Parliament Street.

Police say a man entered a bank and approached a teller. He gave the teller a note demanding money.

"The man walked behind the counter and took the teller's cellphone," police said in a release. "He was then confronted by another employee and fled the scene."

Police say the would-be bandit fled without getting his hands on any money.

Officers from 51 Division responded and made an arrest.

Crist Adumatta, 24, of Toronto is charged with robbery, theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

He is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice at 10 Armoury St.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Adumatta is considered innocent until proven guilty.
