Toronto police reported gunshots were fired at a tow yard in North York early Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at a yard in the Sheppard Avenue West and Chesswood Drive area around 1:10 a.m.
No one was injured in the gunfire, according to the Toronto Police Service (TPS).
Officers discovered evidence of gunfire at the scene.
TPS told TorontoToday there is no additional information available at this time, including a description of a possible suspect.
Anyone with security cameras in the area, or anyone with dash camera footage, has been asked to contact police.
Violence in the tow truck industry
It is unclear if Tuesday's violence is connected to a recent surge of shooting incidences related to towing.
Police in January announced the launch of Project Dodger, a dedicated team of officers who will tackle criminality associated with a "small group of bad actors" within the towing industry.
TPS reported 63 incidents of gunfire in 2024 related to violence in the industry. A police spokesperson said the occurrences accounted for nearly 13 per cent of all shootings in the city last year.
In January, Toronto police said officers were investigating three tow-truck related shootings that occurred in the Greater Toronto Area within 24 hours.
TPS has said their investigations into violence within the towing industry should not mean distrust in law abiding tow companies. Police said most companies comply with the provincial regulations under the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act and play "an essential role in maintaining road safety."
