A Toronto mother is facing charges following the death of an infant in Toronto's midtown neighbourhood.
Police were called to Roselawn and Marlee avenues on Wednesday at around 11:25 a.m. over reports of a missing child.
Law enforcement said the victim's father contacted police from a residential building to report his four-month-old son missing.
Officers arrived on scene and located the infant who required life saving care, police said.
The unnamed infant was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Police said on Thursday the infant's mother, 30-year-old Karessa Edwards of Toronto, has been arrested and charged with failure to provide the necessaries of life.
She was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Finch Avenue East on Thursday morning.
The homicide and missing persons unit is continuing to monitor the investigation, police said in a news release.
None of the allegations against Edwards have been tested in court and she is considered innocent until proven guilty.
