The Toronto Reference Library will open at a later time on Thursday due to a "fire incident" on the property, the city's library system announced.
No one was injured in the fire.
The Toronto Public Library (TPL) said the collections housed inside the Yonge Street location were undamaged.
The library is expected to open to the public around noon today.
In a statement to TorontoToday, TPL said there was a "minor fire" in the learning centre 1 area on the main floor of the Toronto Reference Library.
"While the fire was quickly contained, sprinkler activation caused water damage to equipment in the Learning Centre, staff areas and adjacent floor spaces," TPL wrote. "We are grateful that no one was injured and our collections were unaffected."
The TPL issued a "special thanks" to library staff, who responded quickly to the incident and have already begun cleanup efforts.
When the Toronto Reference Library reopens today, the location's digital innovation hub and the learning centre 1 area will remain closed.
Toronto Fire Services could not provide further information as of Thursday morning.
The Toronto Reference Library is typically open from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
⚠️Toronto Reference Library is temporarily closed to the public due to a fire incident. Thankfully, no one was injured, and our collections remain undamaged. We're currently cleaning up and expect to reopen at 12 pm today. Thanks for understanding.
