BREAKING: SIU probes woman's death in fall from High Park balcony

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said it is investigating following the death of a 44-year-old woman early Monday morning in west end Toronto.

The SIU said preliminary information suggests that just before 2 a.m., Toronto Police Service officers attended an apartment at 100 High Park Ave. in relation to a wanted person.

"Officers spoke to a woman who then attempted to scale down the balcony of an apartment," the SIU said. "She fell and was located on the ground by officers." 

The woman was taken by ambulance to hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. One subject official and three witness officials have been designated.

A post-mortem is scheduled for Wednesday.

The SIU investigates incidents resulting in serious injury, death, allegations of sexual assault and discharge of a firearm by an officer at a person. The agency has jurisdiction over all municipal, regional and provincial police officers in Ontario.
