The Toronto Police Service (TPS) has created several books of condolence for Det. John Park, the veteran officer who died while on duty on Dec. 19.
Park, who served on the force for 14 years, died after a suspected medical episode while executing a search warrant in connection to a robbery near Jane Street and Steeles Avenue. He was 40 years old.
TPS established books of condolence at several locations, including the Toronto Police Service Headquarters at 40 College St., where family, friends and colleagues can leave notes until Dec. 27, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A book of condolence will also be located at the TPS 33 Division (50 Upjohn Rd., North York) and 22 Division (3699 Bloor St. W., Etobicoke) until Dec. 27. The books are available to sign from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Those unable to view the books of condolence in-person can also sign online.
Park leaves behind his wife, Tina, and their two children, ages 9 and 5.
In an obituary for Park, his loved ones said, "John’s life was one filled with love for his family, friends, and colleagues."
"His memory will forever create smiles, laughter, tears, and inspiration. John will be missed by all who knew him," the obituary reads.
A GoFundMe page has been established to support Park's family in the wake of his death. The page notes that funds raised "will go toward funeral expenses, financial stability for Tina, and ensuring his children, who were the light of his life, have access to education and the opportunities John always dreamed of for them."
The page has already surpassed its goal and has raised over $151,000.
