'It's a really fun day': TTC Halloween Fest has taken over the haunted Bay Lower Station this weekend

The familiar sights and sounds of spooky season have returned to Bay Lower Station this weekend as the TTC welcomes thousands to this weekend's Halloween Fest

For a third straight year, the event features the station's notoriously haunted subway train — filled with lots of scares, decorations and candy.

Bay Lower has not operated as a subway station since 1966.

Families can also enjoy a variety of interactive demonstrations and activities. To accommodate the easily frightened, a friendlier and less spooky train is available to tour.

Mary Davidson, TTC's senior communications advisor, is one of 100 volunteers who helped organize the event this weekend.

She told TorontoToday that Halloween Fest has grown consistently since its inception in 2022, and she's hopeful the TTC will break their attendance record this year.

"We had 12,000 people come out last year, so we're hoping for even more people this weekend," she said. "I've gotten to see it grow and that's just been so fulfilling for me and everyone else involved here."

TTC Halloween Fest runs until 7 p.m. this evening, which will include an appearance from Mayor Olivia Chow at 4:15 p.m. The festivities return on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Entry is $5. Kids two and under are free. All proceeds go to United Way Greater Toronto.

"We want as many members of our community to come out and enjoy this incredible life experience," Davidson said. "It's a really fun day."

Attendees can enter through the Cumberland Street level automatic entrance on the south side of Cumberland St., west of Bay St. For accessible access to activities on Bay Station’s concourse level, attendees should use the Cumberland Terrace elevator and ramp, located at 2 Bloor St. W.
