The City of Toronto on Thursday awarded a $8.7 million contract to Bridgecon Construction for three different restoration projects.
Under the new contract, Bridgecon will rehabilitate bridges on Brock Avenue, on Dupont
Street under the Metrolinx Rail and along the West Toronto Railpath (WTR) over Bloor Street.
The contract will last until Dec. 31, 2025.
Engineering estimates maintain the project will cost $6.2 million, with a total cost to the city being $7.8 million.
Any properties affected by the construction surrounding the three bridges will receive approximately two weeks notice from the city before work begins.
Toronto’s WTR is a multi-use trail maintained by City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation. The area is much beloved by outdoorsy Torontonians who enjoy running, cycling and walking their dogs.
The city currently plans to extend the WTR two kilometres south from where it currently ends at Dundas Street West onward to Abell Street (just north of King Street).
The complete extension is expected to cost $149 million — a price tag that sparked criticism when it was announced in August. The federal government is forking over $23 million of that cost.
