Beloved magazine shop Presse Internationale to reopen in new location

After an outpouring of support from customers, co-owners Edith Yang and her husband decided to look for a new Bloor Street home for Presse Internationale

After Presse Internationale announced it was closing late last year, some Annex residents may have been surprised to see the beloved magazine store still operating in the new year.

That’s because the Presse Internationale owners were able to ink a deal on a new location, saving the specialty magazine store from closing for good.

Now, co-owners Edith Yang and her husband are in the arduous process of moving thousands of magazines from their original store to the new unit at 515 Bloor St. W.

The new location is on the second floor, co-owner Edith Yang told TorontoToday, and is only about 50 metres east of the original store.

The revamped Presse Internationale is expected to open near the end of January.

After news got out about Presse Internationale closing last year, a wave of customers told Yang they were heartbroken to see the magazine store go.

Presse Internationale carries over a thousand publications in multiple foreign languages. Patrons told TorontoToday last year that the little store is the only place where they can find some of their favourite magazines.

“We were so moved,” Yang said of the community’s support. “So we tried to look for a new place.”

In October, TorontoToday reported the details on why the business had planned to close for good
