Nearly two weeks after TorontoToday reported the FunGuyz chain of magic mushroom dispensaries was expected to close, the illegal storefronts are still operational.
On Friday night, the FunGuyz store on Queen Street West was still displaying a bright "open" sign in the window. Shelves and display cases that were last month near empty had been replenished with dried mushrooms, capsules and psilocybin edibles.
FunGuyz employees earlier told TorontoToday the storefronts would shutter before last weekend. The FunGuyz website still states that "physical magic mushroom dispensaries are temporarily closed," but orders can be placed online.
When a reporter entered the Queen West shop Friday night, an employee said he was unsure if the storefront would close but admitted staff at the location are all looking for new jobs.
A reporter's call to the Spadina location's officially listed phone number on Saturday was met with a comment that they'd reached the "wrong number." FunGuyz owners have yet to respond to a TorontoToday request for comment.
Correction: This story has been updated to clarify the reporter visited a location on Queen Street West.
