Ontario Premier Doug Ford says U.S. alcohol products will be pulled from LCBO shelves starting Tuesday in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's imposition of steep tariffs on Canadian products headed to the U.S.

Tariffs have also been applied to products coming from Mexico and China in what Trump says is a bid to stop fentanyl and illegal migration.

The tariffs are expected to have a devastating impact in Ontario.

"Every year, LCBO sells nearly $1 billion worth of American wine, beer, spirits and seltzers. Not anymore," Ford said Sunday morning on social media.

Only wholesaler in province

As the only wholesaler of alcohol in the province, LCBO will also remove American products from its catalogue so other Ontario-based restaurants and retailers can’t order or restock U.S. products, the premier said.

"There’s never been a better time to choose an amazing Ontario-made or Canadian-made product. As always, please drink responsibly," Ford said.

Ford has said his snap election call was to seek a mandate from the public on how to handle the province's response to Trump's tariff regime.

Ontario voters will go to the polls Feb. 27.
