A downtown Metro grocery store has been closed after a multiple infractions were found during a recent DineSafe inspection.

The grocery store located at 80 Front St. E. in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood was inspected on March 13, and was found to have three infractions, including one deemed "crucial," according to the store's latest DineSafe report.

DineSafe is a food safety program from Toronto Public Health that regularly inspects establishments serving and preparing food, giving them a pass, conditional pass or closed notice.

The Metro location was found to have a crucial infraction, described as "food premise maintained in manner permitting health hazard (rodents)." The store also had one significant infraction related to the harbouring of pests and one minor infraction related to food handling.

According to DineSafe, crucial infractions are "conditions that endanger food directly, such as contamination, time-temperature abuse or lack of safe-to-drink water or any other condition that constitutes a health hazard," and are the only infraction level that can prompt an order to close an establishment.

On Saturday morning, a manager at the Metro location told TorontoToday the store has since reopened to the public. The manager refused to answer additional questions or provide comment about the inspection.

The Metro location passed their previous six DineSafe inspections, which occurred throughout 2023 and 2024.
