The Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) is bringing holiday music to the city with four festive concerts that promise something for everyone, whether you're a classical music connoisseur, a pop enthusiast or a family seeking wholesome fun.
First up is Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker: Land of Sweets which will play from Nov. 27 through to Nov. 30. The music of the ballet classic will come to life with favourites including Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Waltz of the Flowers. The Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra will also join in for a performance of Polovtsian Dances from the opera Prince Igor. Get your Nutcracker tickets here.
Next up is Elf which will play in concert from Dec. 5 to Dec. 8. In the movie, "Buddy the Elf" (played by Will Ferrell) is accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and is raised among Santa’s elves. Once an adult, Buddy travels to New York to find his true parents. The film will screen as the live symphony orchestra plays John Debney’s score. You can find Elf tickets here.
The TSO is also bringing the Holiday Pops concert to Toronto from Dec. 10 to Dec. 12. Led by Jeff Tyzik and featuring the vocals of Toronto’s own Denzal Sinclaire, the concert is designed to "get you into the holiday spirit faster than you can say, Fa la la!" The Etobicoke School of the Arts Holiday Chorus will also feature in the performance. Buy TSO Holiday Pop tickets here.
Lastly, Messiah takes over from Dec. 17 to Dec. 22. Jean-Sébastien Vallée leads the TSO and the voices of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, along with four soloists, in a rendition of Handel’s beloved oratorio. Get your Messiah tickets here.
