The all-Canadian production of the musical comedy Titanique appears to be avoiding any icebergs and will see its journey in Toronto extended.
After a sold-out run in Montréal, the show began performances at Toronto’s CAA Theatre on Dec. 5 and has been playing to packed houses ever since.
Due to popular demand, Mirvish Productions said the musical comedy will now stay docked in Toronto until Jan. 19.
Titanique had its world premiere off-Broadway in New York City in 2022 where it earned rave reviews. Its New York run continues to sell out, with productions now also staged in London, England, and Sydney, Australia.
Marrying the music of Céline Dion with the Oscar-winning blockbuster movie Titanic, the show turns one of the greatest love stories of all time into a "hysterical musical fantasia and joyful slay-fest", Mirvish advertised.
"Want to find out what really happened to Jack and Rose on that fateful night? Just leave it to Celine Dion to enchant the audience with her totally wild take, recharting the course of Titanic’s beloved moments and characters with her iconic song catalogue," the production company teased.
"Sailing on fierce powerhouse voices in show-stopping performances of such hits as 'My Heart Will Go On,' 'All By Myself' and 'To Love You More' – backed by the unparalleled energy of a full live band – Titanique is a one-of-a-kind theatrical voyage bursting with nostalgia, heart, and campy chaos," Mirvish said.
Véronique Claveau stars as Céline Dion. An actor, singer and dancer, Claveau first won acclaim in Quebec for her imitation of the famed singer.
Tickets, starting at $39, are available for purchase at the Mirvish website or by calling the box office at 1-800-461-3333.
