Members of The Alpine Merry Sheep Choir are baaa-ck at a pair of downtown Christmas markets this season — and they’re keeping the holiday spirit alive in a hilariously untraditional way.

Assembled by Corpus Dance Projects — a Toronto-based dance theatre company — the singing sheep and their shepherd were caught caroling at the St. Lawrence winter market to cheerful crowds on Sunday.

The caroling sheep incorporated their “baahs” into classic renditions of White Christmas, Jingle Bells and All I Want for Christmas Is You, which evoked cheers and laughter from numerous families. They even sang some songs in French.

After each performance, the flock gets fed by their shepherd before they stroll along to a new spot to sing their next holiday tune.

The choir was established in December 2020 when Corpus brought a special version of “Les moutons” — a theatrical take on sheep behaviour that combines movement and imagery — to households and front porches around Toronto.

They’ve since performed at the Junction’s Window Wonderland, as well as the Bloor Street West Village and Distillery District.
