It looks like the popular musical Come From Away is not going away any time soon.

The Mirvish production now on at the Royal Alexandra Theatre has extended its run due to popular demand.

After a sold-out engagement at Ottawa's National Arts Centre English Theatre, the musical made its homecoming in Toronto this fall.

Now, the Canadian multi-award-winning production will remain on the Royal Alexandra stage until at least April 6.

The original Canadian production will mark a milestone on Jan. 29, 2025, when the cast and crew give their 1,000th performance.

A New York Times critic's pick, Come From Away tells the true story of 7,000 stranded passengers in the small town of Gander, N.L. Locals welcomed the travellers as 38 passenger planes were grounded in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

"Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships," Mirvish said in advertisement of the production.

The musical, which was a Broadway hit from 2017 to 2022, was written by Tony-nominated Canadians Irene Sankoff and David Hein and features Tony-winning direction by Christopher Ashley.

The original Canadian production began in Toronto on Feb. 18, 2018, and played to sold-out audiences for over two years.

Its run was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic on March 13, 2020. Come From Away returned to the stage on Dec. 15, 2021, but was again paused amid new pandemic restrictions.

Producers opted to put the show on hiatus until more stable times, Mirvish said.

After a run in Ottawa this summer, the show returned to its original Canadian home at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in September.

Come From Away tickets start at $49 and can be purchased at the Mirvish website or by calling the box office at 1-800-461-3333.
