The all-Canadian production of Come From Away has received a final extension, David and Hannah Mirvish announced Tuesday in a statement.

Four more weeks will be added to the current run at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, with May 4 marked as the closing date.

The show is based on the true story of 7,000 airline passengers who were welcomed into Gander, Newfoundland after they were stranded when planes were grounded following the September 11 attacks.

Come From Away is a miraculous creation tackling a seemingly unmusical subject to become the most successful Canadian musical of all time. From humble beginnings, it went on to conquer Broadway, London’s West End, Europe, Australia, South America and Asia, with many more productions still to come," David Mirvish said in a statement.

“Telling a true story and based on firsthand interviews and research by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, Come From Away explores and champions community, empathy, kindness and resilience.”

The production was originally performed by students as a workshop presentation at Sheridan College in 2013. After its world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse in the summer of 2015, it played its pre-Broadway engagement at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in 2016-17.

Come From Away then opened on Broadway in March 2017 and ended up winning a Tony, before coming back to Toronto in 2018.

The show was dealt a tough hand during the COVID-19 pandemic, being shut down multiple times, but despite these complications, most of the original assembly returned in July 2024.

"We couldn’t be prouder to have produced and presented Come From Away for all these years. The show will remain a highlight of more than six decades that the Mirvish family has been presenting theatre in Canada, London and New York," Hannah Mirvish said.

The show is directed by Christopher Ashley, with musical staging by Kelly Devine, and is starring names such as Kyle Brown, Saccha Dennis, Steffi Didomenicantonio, Barbara Fulton, Lisa Horner, and more.

Tickets to new performances are available online.
