VIDEO: This is why Trudeau still believes he can win again

'To prejudge the outcome of an election already is something that I don’t think people would be too wise in doing' — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, speaking to our Inside the Village podcast

Two months ago, a steelworker in Sault Ste. Marie went viral after speaking his mind to the prime minister during a photo-op at Algoma Steel.

Instead of shaking Justin Trudeau's hand and accepting a free donut, the man took the opportunity to tell the PM what a lot of Canadians are feeling.

“I think you’re only here for another year," Kyle Mero told Trudeau. "We won’t see you around probably in another year, Justin.”

He may turn out to be right. But amid dismal polling numbers, a mini-caucus revolt — and a resounding victory for Donald Trump south of the border — Trudeau remains convinced he can lead the Liberal Party to another victory in the next federal election.

Why? We asked the prime minister that question when he sat down for an interview with our Inside the Village podcast.

“Canadians tend to make up their minds later," Trudeau said. "Right now, absolutely, there is a huge level of frustration [and] a lot of it is pointed at me. A lot of it is directed at me through very clever use of social media and attack ads that we haven’t yet responded to. But to prejudge the outcome of an election already is something that I don’t think people would be too wise in doing.”
