🌡️ A mix of sun and clouds with temperatures in the low-20s. There’s a decent chance of rain tonight around 8 p.m. 

🔥 The battle for Billy Bishop is heating up. City staff recently recommended against extending the airport’s 40-year lease. PortsToronto, the federal agency that runs the airport, obviously wasn’t pleased. Today, city hall’s executive committee will consider what to do next

📅 The TDSB cancelled field trips to Nathan Phillips Square for National Truth and Reconciliation Day because administrators were frightened it could turn political. The board already has the province breathing down its neck over the field trip to the Grassy Narrows protest. 

🤔 Naomi Buck questions why protests are on the curriculum in the first place. Teaching should be the focus, she argues. 

🏙️ The battle over safe consumption sites is playing out in Kensington Market

🎸 Criminally overrated British band Oasis confirmed they’re coming to Toronto next year. The presale starts Wednesday at 2 p.m. The band also vowed to do ticketing better in North America after their UK sales rollout was widely criticized. 

🛑 City council and the municipal bureaucracy can often be rightly accused of paralysis by analysis. Then, sometimes, you see a decision play out in the real world and can’t help but wonder who thought of that. A pole in the middle of a sidewalk and bike lane is the latest example. 

💰 The vacant home tax is also on the executive committee agenda. It brought in a bunch of money but was an administrative nightmare. Mayor Olivia Chow vowed to fix the fiasco

🍽️ Offices sit empty throughout downtown Toronto. Some developers are banking on fancy new restaurants to help attract tenants. 

🏀 Shaq tried to skirt through CityPlace on his way to a DJ set at Rebel on the weekend without anyone noticing. But he’s an internationally famous athlete who’s tall even compared to the towers along Fort York Boulevard.

Events, dear boy, events 

El Mocambo hosts the Toronto Burlesque Festival from Thursday to Sunday. 

Director Guillermo Del Toro hosts a fundraiser at The Revue on Thursday night. 

Billie Eilish is at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday and Wednesday. Fred Again follows her on Thursday and Friday. 

Nuit Blanche goes from sundown Saturday to sun up Sunday in one of the marquee arts events of the year. 

If you’ve ever laughed at a David Sedaris book, now’s your chance to see him in person. The author is at Massey Hall on Wednesday to do some readings and a Q&A session. 

The Greek International Film Festival starts tomorrow and runs through October. 

Toronto’s Coin Expo takes over the Toronto Reference Library on Friday and Saturday.
